Linen: a heritage material with a place in today’s wardrobe
For our summer collection at ESSIMÉ, we turned to one of the most refined natural fibres — linen. A noble material with a history older than fashion itself. Timeless, elegant, functional. Just like the dresses we aspire to create.
Why linen?
Linen stands out with its texture, breathability, and natural ability to keep the body cool. On hot days, it offers comfort, ease, and a refreshing sense of lightness. Its rustic weave carries both strength and serenity — the quiet force of nature, distilled into fabric.
With its subtle irregularity and raw texture, linen feels natural yet refined. A material with character — unmistakable and quietly beautiful.
Our linen
The linen we use at ESSIMÉ is woven and dyed in the Czech Republic from premium European flax (flax is no longer grown locally). The fabric is softened during production, resulting in a smooth, pleasant feel — without the roughness or scratchiness typical of untreated linen.
Over time, it becomes softer and drapes more fluidly. The longer you wear it, the better it gets.
ESSIMÉ tip:
Linen naturally creases — not a flaw, but part of its charm. It brings ease and understated elegance to any outfit, especially in summer.
Want to refine the neckline or hem before heading out? Use a handheld steamer directly on the hanger. It’s faster, gentler, and effective.
What makes linen exceptional?
- Naturally cooling. Its low heat conductivity keeps the body fresh in warm temperatures.
- Remarkably strong. Up to 30% stronger than cotton. Linen garments last and age beautifully.
- Absorbs moisture without feeling wet.
- Softens with wear. Washing and wearing only improve its comfort.
- Naturally antibacterial and dust-repellent — ideal even for sensitive skin or allergy-prone wearers.
How to care for linen
Linen is low-maintenance and made to last. With each wash, it softens without losing shape or integrity. We recommend:
Washing
- Coloured linen: ideally at 30 °C
- White linen: can handle up to 60 °C
Drying
- Hang to dry, ideally in shade.
- Dark or black linen should avoid direct sunlight to preserve its depth of colour.
- White linen benefits from sunlight — it naturally brightens.
Tumble drying
- Not recommended. If needed, choose a gentle, short programme.
Ironing / steaming
- Iron on a high setting or steam gently.
- Slight creasing is part of the linen aesthetic — embrace the relaxed elegance.
The ESSIMÉ approach to linen
When selecting fabrics, we look beyond aesthetics. We’re drawn to fibres with purpose, stories behind their weave, and the hands that shaped them.
For us, linen isn’t a seasonal trend — it’s a cornerstone of the future wardrobe. Natural, sophisticated, and made with respect.
